Růžičková, Lucie ; Spilková, Jana (advisor) ; Frélichová, Jana (referee)
Community gardens are a new phenomenon which appeared in Prague quite recently. This thesis focuses on the topic of community gardens and its specific aim is to determine whether the Prague community gardens perform the functions of ecosystem services. The thesis consists of two main parts. The first part aims to create a theoretical framework necessary for the introduction to the study of ecosystem services and the concept of urban gardening. The second part tries to outline which ecosystem services are the most prominent in the researched community gardens and which are the least covered, thus which community gardens in this performance of ecosystem services evaluated best and which the worst. By applying the method of field research and interview it has been confirmed that cultural ecosystem services are the most prominent benefit of community gardening for local communities in Prague. Other important functions that community gardens in this survey performed were supporting and regulating ecosystem services. Equally important is also the finding that community gardens perform the function of producing healthy food for local gardeners. Key words: ekosystem secvices, urban gardering, community gardens

Phenomenon urban gardening
Toppi, Maria Luisa
Urbanization and the global population is increasing at a fast pace. Urban gardens have gained popularity as a mean to produce food locally and organically and provide green spaces for urban citizens. This research explores the history, the impact on sustainable development and types of urban gardens and compares four initiatives in Europe and Asia. In the course of the research, primary research was conducted to profile the individual initiatives. The primary research consisted of semi-structured interviews with key individuals of the respective initiative. While the initiatives show a strong diversity in several aspects such as income streams, funding and size, it can be shown that in Europe, the focus is likely on community building and social aspects. Whereas in Asia, the gardens' purpose tends to be food production and the promotion of urban gardening. A common aspect for all the selected initiatives is composting of organic waste and the participation of the general public.
Jedlé zahrady a jejich uplatnění ve městech
Kroulová, Iveta
The bachelor thesis focuses on the theme of edible gardens in the city. In the theoretical part, a literature review was elaborated on the possibilities of growing crops (food) in the city. In the practical part the field survey method, comparative method and SWOT analysis were used. The field survey was conducted in two different locations and types of urban gardens. In the gardening colony, the amount of food / food produced during one season was monitored. The second survey took place in the community garden and the functions and possibilities that the community garden offers to the residents were assessed. The comparative method captured differences in benefits for residents among the gardens under review. The result is an overview of the specific production of fruit and vegetables in the monitored areas, their comparison and evaluation of the benefit. The results of the SWOT analysis show that the strong points prevail in the community garden, mainly because the interest in the environment and organic food is constantly increasing. The analysis of the limits in relation to the current way of life pointed to the fact that the most important limiting factors are easily available food in supermarkets and the financial / time demands of garden operation.
Urban community garden "Smetanka" in years 2014-2017: reasons to gardening, a conflict and the over
Beran, David ; Novák, Arnošt (advisor) ; Čada, Karel (referee)
This thesis is based upon the phenomenon known as urban community gardening, and examines it with regards to conflicts within an intended environment. The theoretical section is based on a school of thought that holds nature as something that exists in both science and humanities, and which can be observed within the social world. As opposed to nature and society being divided, this part will address the term 'socionature', which comprises a current post-anthropocentric stream of humanities and social sciences. Essentially it stays on the theory of conflicts. The research posits answers to the question of how gardeners justify and reasonably support their activities at an urban community garden called "Smetanka garden" in Vinohrady, Prague. Two of the outcomes were: the cultivation of strong neighbourly relations; and encouragement of recreational family outings. The Smetanka garden was closed in 2017. The thesis sees the conflict that occurred around the closure as a socionatural conflict. One question is, what were the arguments for closing the garden? The main argument stated that the land should be used for construction of sports facilities to serve the schools nearby. Furthermore, the community garden was only meant to be temporarily from the beginning. Proponents maintained that the garden...
